Outraged Parents Seek to Put Obama on Sex Offender Watch List PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Tuesday, 08 September 2009 15:56

A terrible and menacing threat has cast a shadow over America's most vulnerable citizens. In light of President Obama's "stay in school" speech to K-12 students, thousands of parents have called 911 complaining that a "scary black man" had approached their children and talked to them as if he knew them. Worse still, this predator spoke to them in their own school, the one place where parents assume their offspring will be safe.

As any parent will tell you, children are for plopping in front of the TV, not for talking to. According to the latest crime statistics interpreted by cable news commentators, the only people who willingly talk to children are pedophiles. So, parents are naturally concerned that the Commander in Chief might fit into that category and, if so, whether he should be on some sort of federal watch list.

"I don't know what this man has in mind for my child, but I can tell you that I don't like it," said Perri Noya, mother of three and avid Fox News viewer. "The bottom line is that if someone outside of my family shows more interest in my child than I do, i.e. any interest at all, then they ought to be locked up. It's as simple as that."

RI Senate approves marijuana stores PDF Print E-mail

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A bill that would allow nonprofit stores in Rhode Island to sell marijuana to medical patients is headed to the governor's desk. The state Senate passed the bill Tuesday afternoon by a 30-2 margin.

The bill has already passed the House and now heads to Governor Donald Carcieri for approval. The governor vetoed similar legislation last year.

If it becomes law, the bill would allow so-called compassion centers to sell marijuana to registered patients with debilitating illnesses. Right now, 680 patients are registered with the Department of Health's medical marijuana program.

State lawmakers approved the use of medical marijuana in 2006, however they never legalized the sale of the drug. Under the current bill, Rhode Island would be the third state in the country and the first on the East Coast to approve marijuana dispensaries for medical patients.

‘Sexting’
a part of culture? PDF Print E-mail

Although law-enforcement agencies have not been coming forward with complaints, State’s Attorney Louis Bianchi suspects that sexting is prolific in McHenry County.

“I don’t think young people are aware that it’s illegal,” Bianchi said. “It is a crime.”

Sexting is sending sexually provocative photos or videos, usually via cell phone, and studies suggest that many teens – and twentysomethings – are doing it.

Dr. Susan Lipkins, a New York-based psychologist, performed a study on sexting with 323 participants between the ages of 13 and 72.

In the teenage group, 63.6 percent of females and 72.7 percent of males sexted.

"Middle School Girls Gone Wild"… Really? I think the boys are wilder!

The New York Times
this morning ran an editorial "Sex Offenders In Exile" that is about the most sensible thing they've written on the topic. In it, they rightly point out that driving sex offenders underground by overly restrictive policies about where they can live is a dangerous and misguided tactic

They also rightly point out that such policies — which have effectively made some entire cities and towns off limits to sex offenders — are often made because we are justifiably afraid. That our fear is justifiable does not mean that it is a good driving force for policy-making. Fear leads to irrational decisions.

(Note: This is not the first time I've written about sex offender policies. See here and here for other posts on the topic.)

HOLLY, Mich. (AP) - An ex-Holly High School music teacher accused of having sex with two students has been sentenced to nine months in jail.

Authorities say 42-year-old Ranee Proper had sex with boys ages 16 and 17. They originally charged her with five counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a student.

In a deal, Proper pleaded guilty last month to second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

On Wednesday, Oakland County Circuit Judge Edward Sosnick sentenced her to five years' probation, the first nine months of it in jail. He also ordered her to get sex offender treatment and not to have unsupervised contact with minors other than relatives.
